Tips & Tricks
Our beginner tips are here to make it easier for you to get started in Dungeon Explorer. But of course, the true secrets and master strategies are yours to discover.
Weapons & Armor
The Anvil
Found weapons and armor pieces can be upgraded. Hover over an item in your inventory to see how many upgrades are still possible. The first upgrades are cheap, but the cost rises quickly.
The Loot System
The level of items you find is limited by your six highest-level items. If your gear averages level 10, you’ll find new items around that level. Then you can upgrade those new pieces again.
What to Level First?
Many beginners struggle because they deal too little damage. That keeps mobs alive longer – and you end up taking more hits. Our recommendation: upgrade your weapon first, then your armor.
Save Your Cores
Always keep a stash of upgrade cores for later. Sometimes you find a bunch of new gear all at once – and then even more shortly after. Having a healthy stockpile pays off.
Always Upgrade When You Can
Your current gear is fully upgraded, but new items have too few core slots? Upgrade the best of the new ones anyway – they'll boost the quality of future loot.
Shops Refresh Their Stock
The weapon vendor offers new items daily. Especially early on, the cores sold there are extremely useful.
Combat
Learn Enemy Behavior
Combat takes planning and quick reactions. Watch enemy movement patterns and take out spawners and totems quickly.
Bows Are Your Friends
Bows are great for keeping enemies at a distance – especially thanks to their knockback, even when un-upgraded.
Keep Moving
Take out ranged enemies first – but keep an eye on those Creepers. Use your sword’s dash attack to outmaneuver foes.
Avoid Damage
Practice dodging on purpose. You should avoid getting hit at all – especially by Slimes and Zombies.
Go All In
Charged attacks deal much more damage and trigger critical hits or magic effects. If charging isn’t your thing, try faster weapons like the dagger.
Stay Flexible
Use different weapon types. Some enemies are immune to certain damage types or can only be hurt from range.
AOE Becomes Key Later
AOE (area damage) effects are optional early on – but they become increasingly useful in co-op and late dungeons where enemies swarm you.
Synergize Your Gear
Combine effects like poison with fast weapons for maximum impact.
The Card Deck
Discover Cards
You’ll find new cards during your journeys – so always keep an eye out. Each card can be included up to three times in your deck.
Unlock the Deck Builder
You unlock the Deck Builder in Chapter 5 by rescuing the missing villager in the Ancient Vault.
Check in regularly
Visit the card vendor daily – their selection changes regularly. Use Endless Mode to farm cards efficiently. Experiment with card effects. Don’t underestimate cards like Swift, for example.
Other Tips
Co-op Mode
All dungeons can be played in teams (up to 4 players). Those who combine builds and weapons well have a big advantage.
Mutators
Once you unlock the Weekly Challenge, you can collect mutators there. They make enemies tougher but also boost your loot – perfect for farming Knold and gear.
Using JayCees
This currency is found in the hub, and you can earn a decent amount daily by voting. Exchange your JayCees with bankers for Knold or card fragments.
Dungeon Variety
Play co-op, practice in Endless Mode, or go back to earlier dungeons if you’re stuck on a newer one.
Spellbooks
In later dungeons, you can find powerful spells. The healing spell, for example, heals you and nearby teammates. It’s also useful in older dungeons and a key to climbing the leaderboard in Endless Mode.
